Why Go to Mozambique

Unlike typical “resort-only” islands, Mozambique blends castaway-style luxury with authentic culture and serious biodiversity. You can pair dugong and turtle-rich lagoons, whale shark encounters and winter whale watching with UNESCO heritage and a meaningful, low-impact safari. It is the definitive Indian Ocean finale to a Southern Africa itinerary.

Where to Go in Mozambique

  • Bazaruto & Benguerra (Vilanculos): Calm lagoons, premier snorkelling/diving, dugong stronghold.

  • Quirimbas (Ibo, Quilalea, Medjumbe): Remote islands, dhow culture, mangroves and reefs.

  • Tofo & Barra (Inhambane): Whale sharks Oct–Mar, manta rays, vibrant dive scene.

  • Ponta do Ouro (far south): Protected marine reserve, dolphins, seasonal sharks and turtles; easy link from South Africa.

  • Ilha de Moçambique: UNESCO old capital with layered maritime history.

  • Gorongosa National Park: Safari extension showcasing a landmark restoration model.

When to Go to Mozambique

  • Dry, cooler season (May–Nov): Generally the best beach weather; calm seas and clear water in many areas.

  • Humpbacks (roughly Jun–Oct): West/north coasts and Bazaruto/Quirimbas channels.

  • Whale sharks (Oct–Mar): Peak around Tofo/Inhambane; Bazaruto can see activity Oct–Apr.

  • Cyclone risk: Higher January–March, especially in the north; plan with seasonal coasts in mind.

We’ll steer you to the right coast and islands for your travel month, then build boats, flights and guides around it.
