Overview

This is the definitive introduction to Angola — Africa's last great frontier safari destination. Over seven nights you move from the ocean-front energy of Luanda, one of the continent's most dramatic capital cities, into the restored wilderness of Kissama (Quiçama) National Park, and finally to the otherworldly dunes of Iona, where the ancient Namib Desert crashes into the cold Atlantic. Almost no travellers make this journey; those who do experience a country reopening to the world with its wild places raw, uncrowded and utterly unforgettable.

Kissama is one of conservation's great comeback stories. Emptied by decades of civil war, it was restocked from 2001 in the celebrated 'Operation Noah's Ark' airlift of elephants and other game from Botswana and South Africa, and in 2025 the wider Quiçama landscape was inscribed as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Today, elephants, giraffe, roan and eland move again through a vast palm-and-baobab savanna that rolls to the Kwanza River and the Atlantic — just 70km from the capital. From Kissama you fly south to Iona, Angola's largest national park: 15,150 km² where towering orange dunes, gravel plains studded with ancient welwitschia plants, and the fog-cooled Skeleton-Coast shoreline meet in a landscape that feels like the edge of the earth. This is expedition travel of the most rewarding kind — private guides, comfortable camps and a sense of genuine discovery on every drive.

Who It's For

Ideal for well-travelled safari-goers who have done the classic circuits — the Serengeti, the Mara, the Okavango — and now want somewhere almost no one else has been. Expect frontier-level logistics (charter and scheduled flights, long transfers, comfortable rather than ultra-luxe lodging in places) rewarded by empty parks, warm Angolan hospitality and landscapes found nowhere else on the continent. A spirit of adventure matters more here than a checklist of Big Five sightings.

Why Choose This Package

Africa's Newest Frontier

Angola sees a tiny fraction of the visitors of Kenya or South Africa. You explore restored parks and desert wilderness with almost no other travellers in sight.

A Conservation Comeback

Kissama's Operation Noah's Ark restocking and its 2025 UNESCO Biosphere status make this one of Africa's most inspiring rewilding stories to witness first-hand.

Two Worlds in One Journey

From palm-savanna elephants on the Kwanza to the towering Namib-Atlantic dunes of Iona, few countries pack such contrast into a single week.

Private & Fully Escorted

Internal flights, expert guides and a seamless private itinerary mean you focus only on the wilderness — we handle Angola's frontier logistics.
