Ten Days: Amboseli, the Mara and the Indian Ocean
This is the Kenya trip that actually works — four nights in the Masai Mara to see the big cats and, if you travel July to October, the river crossings; two in Amboseli with Kilimanjaro filling the horizon behind the elephants; and two on Diani Beach where the reef breaks a hundred metres out and the sand is the colour of flour. Internal flights join the three legs, so you spend your days in the bush or on the beach rather than on transfer roads. Park fees, every meal in camp and on the coast, all game drives and your Mara conservancy permits are settled before you travel.
We built this itinerary around one simple criticism of similar trips sold elsewhere: they short-change the Mara. Two nights in the Mara is a gamble; four gives you the time to find a leopard in the riverine bush, sit with a cheetah hunting at dawn, and — in season — wait for a crossing at the Mara River without watching the clock. Amboseli opens the trip with big-tusker elephants and the mountain, and Diani closes it with two proper rest days on the south coast rather than the three or four nights other operators pad in to fill a longer (and more expensive) itinerary. Three price tiers put the same route within reach at $4,200 per person or let you step up to private conservancy suites and a villa on the beach at $12,500.
Built for couples, families and small groups who want a complete Kenya trip — real wildlife time plus genuine beach days — without the inflated pricing and padded schedules that similar itineraries carry elsewhere. The route suits first-time safari travellers as well as returnees who have done Southern Africa and want East Africa done properly.

🏨 Accommodation: Nairobi boutique hotel
🍽️ Meals: Dinner

📍 Amboseli, Kenya
Seventeen tents on a private conservancy at the foot of Kilimanjaro, angled so the mountain fills the view from bed and bath. Game drives run in the national park and on the camp's own land, where walking and night drives are allowed. Elephant herds cross the plains below camp most afternoons.
From $600 per person per night
📍 Masai Mara, Kenya
Glass-fronted tents on the Oloololo escarpment, 300 metres above the Mara Triangle, with the whole plain spread out below. The river crossings are a short drive down; between them the Triangle holds the Mara's densest resident game and its lightest vehicle traffic.
From $1,150 per person per night
📍 Olare Motorogi Conservancy, Kenya
Six tents in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, north of the reserve boundary, where vehicle numbers are capped and off-road and night drives are permitted. Big cats are the draw — the conservancy holds some of the highest lion and leopard densities in the Mara ecosystem.
From $700 per person per night
📍 Diani Beach, Kenya
A low-rise beach resort set in gardens above a wide stretch of Diani sand, with direct beach access, several pools and a dive centre on site. Rooms run from garden cottages to ocean-facing suites, and the reef a short boat ride out is good for snorkelling at low tide.
From $180 per person per night

July to October is the prime window — the Mara River crossings are on, Amboseli is dry enough for the elephants to concentrate at the marshes with Kilimanjaro sharp behind them, and the Diani coast is warm and dry between the monsoons. January and February work well too, with a hot dry coast and green-season Amboseli rates. Avoid April and May when the long rains close some Mara tracks and the coast is wet.
Most bush-and-beach packages give you two nights in the Mara and four on the beach. We reverse that priority because you did not fly to Kenya for the sunbed.
Light aircraft join Nairobi, Amboseli, the Mara and Diani — no eight-hour road transfers eating into your holiday.
Similar 10- to 12-day Kenya bush-and-beach trips elsewhere start above $20,000pp. This route starts at $4,200 because we do not pad the schedule, hide lodge costs or gate the price behind an enquiry form.
Your Mara nights are in a private conservancy with capped vehicle numbers and off-road driving — not the crowded national reserve where twenty vehicles circle a lion.
