Track forest elephants on white-sand beaches where the rainforest meets the Atlantic
Loango National Park is where the rainforest tumbles straight onto the Atlantic, and it delivers a safari found nowhere else on earth. Over six nights you track forest elephants and buffalo as they wander out of dense jungle onto empty white-sand beaches, watch hippos body-surf in the ocean swell, and glide through mangrove lagoons alive with birds. This is the wilderness David Attenborough's crew made famous as 'Africa's last Eden' — remote, pristine and reached only by light aircraft and boat.
You stay six nights inside the park, splitting your time between a comfortable lagoon-side lodge and a remote forest bush camp on the Akaka waterways. Days blend beach game drives, boat safaris on the Iguéla lagoon and the Akaka's flooded forest, and guided forest walks in search of western lowland gorillas, red river hogs and habituated mandrill troops. Between July and September, humpback whales and their calves breach just offshore, and from November to January leatherback and olive ridley turtles nest on the beaches. All charter flights from Libreville, park fees, boat transfers and guiding are included.
Well-travelled safari-goers who have done the classic East and Southern African circuits and want something genuinely different and exclusive — comfortable with rustic-luxury camps, boat travel and forest walking, and drawn to a wilderness almost no one else has seen.
Met on arrival at Libreville's Léon-Mba International Airport and transferred to your hotel on the Atlantic seafront. Time to rest after your international flight, with an optional walk along the Bord de Mer or a visit to the Marché du Mont-Bouët. Your guide briefs you on the days ahead over dinner before the morning flight into the park.

The long dry season from May to September offers the most comfortable weather, calm seas for boat safaris and the humpback whale migration (July–September) offshore. The short dry season from mid-December to mid-February coincides with turtle nesting on the beaches. The heaviest rains fall March to April and October to November, when some forest camps close, though wildlife remains and the forest is at its most dramatic.
