When to Go for a Luxury Kenya Safari
Kenya is a superb year-round safari, but the season shapes both the experience and the price. The classic window is the long dry season from late June to October, when the grass thins, wildlife concentrates around water, and the Great Migration surges into the Mara with its famous river crossings. This is peak season — the finest camps book out a year ahead, and rates are at their highest.
The short dry season of January and February is our quiet favourite: warm, clear and green after the short rains, superb for cats and calving, with fewer visitors and softer rates. The green seasons — the long rains from March to May and the short rains in November — bring lush landscapes, newborn game, wonderful birding and the lowest prices of the year, in exchange for occasional afternoon storms and a few camps closing in April and May.
For the migration specifically, aim for July to October and book early. For value with excellent wildlife, target January to February or the June shoulder. Whatever you choose, in the private conservancies the wildlife is rewarding all year, because it does not depend on the migration.
