The Chalets & Setting
Six tented chalets stand on raised wooden platforms overlooking the pan. Each features floor-to-ceiling mesh windows, en-suite bathrooms with outdoor showers, and private wraparound decks with seating and dining areas. The honeymoon suite includes a roll-top bath on a secluded deck; the family tent offers an extended balcony and adjoining space for children.
The main area is split-level: a lounge, bar, dining deck and firepit all face the waterhole. A small plunge pool provides relief from the midday heat, and beneath the main deck, a photographic hide offers eye-level views of the pan — ideal for serious wildlife photography.
Wildlife & Activities
Kanga's location — 15km from the Zambezi River — makes it a wildlife magnet during the dry months. Elephant herds arrive daily to drink at the pan, joined by zebra, kudu, waterbuck and predators like lion and leopard. The photographic hide puts you at eye level with drinking animals, creating intimate, dramatic encounters.
Beyond the armchair experience, professional guides lead walking safaris and game drives (including night drives within the private concession). Birdwatching is exceptional, with the pan and surrounding Mopane woodland attracting a wide variety of species.
Best Time to Visit
April to October is the safari season — the dry months concentrate wildlife at the permanent pan. May to July offers cooler temperatures; August to October is peak game-viewing with hotter, drier conditions and the most dramatic wildlife action. The camp closes during the November–March rains.
