Ruckomechi sits on the banks of the Zambezi beneath a canopy of mature mahogany and acacia albida. The Tents & Setting
Ten tented suites — including two family units — stand on elevated wooden platforms. Each features a spacious bedroom, mesh windows, a viewing deck and an en-suite bathroom with a copper bath and outdoor shower. The design is canvas and timber, with low-key elegance and uninterrupted river views.
The main area stretches along the Zambezi on timber walkways: an open lounge, dining deck and star-deck pier that reaches toward the river. A swimming pool overlooks the water, and wildlife — elephant, buffalo, waterbuck — roam freely through the grounds.
Wildlife & Walking Safaris
Mana Pools is celebrated for walking safaris, and Ruckomechi delivers them at the highest level. Professional guides lead excursions on foot through the floodplains, tracking lion, elephant and wild dog. Game drives explore the riverine woodlands, and canoeing trips glide past hippo pods and crocodile slides. Best Time to Visit
April to October is prime — the dry season brings wildlife to the river, and walking safaris are at their best. May to July offers excellent photography; August to October is peak game-viewing but hotter. The camp closes during the November–March rains.
