Why Nyamatusi Camp
Nyamatusi is African Bush Camps' flagship eco-conscious property — a lodge built to leave the lightest possible footprint while delivering an exceptional Mana Pools experience. Set in the private Nyamatusi Wilderness Concession, the camp offers the rare privilege of night drives and walking safaris away from the crowds, all powered entirely by solar energy.
The setting is pure Zambezi Valley: elevated decks overlook the river, wildlife roams freely through the grounds and the sounds of the wild — hippo grunts, fish eagles, the distant rumble of elephant — form the soundtrack of your stay.
The Suites & Setting
Six spacious tented suites stand on raised wooden platforms, each featuring a private viewing deck, a plunge pool, air conditioning and an en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers. The design is organic — thatch, natural stone and a neutral palette of creams, browns and greys that blends into the landscape.
The main area is open-plan: a bar, lounge, dining space and multiple viewing decks connected by timber walkways. A communal fire pit and a second viewing deck create intimate spaces for sundown and stargazing.
Wildlife & Activities
The Nyamatusi Concession delivers Big Five encounters — lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo are regularly seen, with wild dogs also present. Walking safaris are guided by professional, armed rangers (minimum age 16), and game drives — including night drives — explore the private concession with spotlights for leopard and hyena.
Canoeing trips drift past hippo pods and crocodiles, and catch-and-release fishing is available on the Zambezi. The birdlife is extraordinary: African fish eagles, storks, hornbills and countless waterbirds line the river.
Best Time to Visit
April to November is the safari season. May to July offers cooler, clear mornings and excellent photography; August to October is peak game-viewing with hotter, drier conditions. The camp operates seasonally, with distinct "Emerald" and "Diamond" season experiences.
