Mozambique is the King's favourite country, and the beaches are the reason. No stretch of the eastern African coast matches it for clear water, healthy reefs and small island lodges set on private sand. A holiday here is a different thing from a safari — the days are spent on the water and the beach, diving and snorkelling, sailing a dhow at sunset, or doing very little at all on a deck above the tide. The job of a good holiday package is to take the hard part off your hands: the flights from Johannesburg or Maputo, the light-aircraft and boat transfers out to the islands, and the right lodge for how you like to travel.
We have put together, compared and ranked the ten best Mozambique holiday packages for 2026 and 2027 — private, luxury, family, all-inclusive and couples beach holidays across Benguerra, the Bazaruto Archipelago, Vilanculos, Tofo, Ponta Mamoli and the far-north Quirimbas. Each is a real, bookable itinerary with honest prices. If your trip is really about wildlife, our separate Mozambique safari packages guide covers the bush-and-beach and Big Five options; for the lodges themselves, our luxury beach lodges Mozambique and best places to stay in Mozambique guides go property by property, and our best beaches in Mozambique guide ranks every stretch of sand. For timing, our best time to visit Mozambique guide has the full seasonal breakdown.
How We Ranked These Packages
Each package was judged on five things: beach and water quality (the sand, the reefs, the diving and snorkelling, the marine life — whale sharks, mantas, dugong, humpback whales in season), accommodation standard (lodge character, suite and villa quality, how private the beach is, the depth of service), inclusions (how genuinely all-inclusive the rate is — activities, meals, drinks, marine-park fees, internal flights and transfers), experience match (whether it suits couples, families, divers, honeymooners or those after exclusive-use privacy), and value (what you receive for the price). Rankings reflect the best overall fit per traveller type, not simply the most expensive lodge.
1. Benguerra Island Luxury Beach Holiday — 5 Days
Best for: The finest barefoot-luxury island beach holiday in Mozambique, on a private beach inside a marine national park.
Benguerra is the second-largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, and for a pure beach holiday it is the one we recommend most. Three small lodges share the island — Azura Benguerra, andBeyond Benguerra Island and the classic Bazaruto Island Lodge nearby — and each sits on its own stretch of white sand backed by dunes, with private-pool villas, a personal host and reefs a short boat ride offshore. The King has stayed on Benguerra himself; it is the lodge-and-beach combination that keeps bringing travellers back.
The routing is simple: fly Johannesburg to Vilanculos (about two hours), then a 25-minute helicopter or short boat transfer to the island. Five days gives you three to four nights on Benguerra — enough for diving or snorkelling on the Two Mile Reef, a dhow sail at sunset, a sandbank picnic at low tide and real rest. For the lodges in detail, see our luxury beach lodges Mozambique guide and our Azura Benguerra review.
Price from US$5,500 per person sharing (5 days, 3–4 nights Benguerra, all meals, local drinks, snorkelling and dhow activities, marine-park fees, Vilanculos transfers; Johannesburg flights from about US$550 return). Top villas from US$8,500pp. Best season: May–October for the clearest water. Ideal for: Couples, honeymooners, anyone who wants the best island beach holiday in one short trip.
2. Bazaruto Archipelago All-Inclusive Island Holiday — 6 Days
Best for: One clear price that covers everything — meals, drinks, activities and transfers — on a protected island.
If you would rather not think about the bill each day, an all-inclusive island holiday is the way to do Mozambique. On Bazaruto Island and at Anantara Bazaruto, the rate folds in all meals, local drinks, most marine activities, the marine-park fees and the transfers from Vilanculos — so once you arrive, the island is simply yours. Six days gives you four to five nights, which is enough to dive the reefs, take a full dhow day, climb the great dunes for the view across the channels, and still have two days of doing nothing.
Anantara Bazaruto, on the largest island in the archipelago, is the family-friendly all-inclusive of the group, with sea-view pool villas and a spread of included activities. For how the all-inclusive rates work and exactly what is and is not covered, see our all-inclusive Mozambique guide and our Anantara Bazaruto review.
Price from US$4,800 per person sharing (6 days, 4–5 nights all-inclusive, marine activities, park fees, Vilanculos transfers; flights extra). Best season: April–November. Ideal for: Travellers who want a fixed, no-surprises price and a full island with activities on tap.
3. Vilanculos Family Beach Holiday — 7 Days
Best for: Families who want space, a private villa and an easy base with the islands a short boat ride away.
Vilanculos sits on the mainland opposite Bazaruto, and it is the most practical base in the country for families and larger groups. A private villa here — Santorini Mozambique is the best known, with blue-domed houses and their own staff and pools — gives you room to spread out, the option to self-cater, and shops, restaurants and an airstrip close by. The shallows are warm and calm for younger children, and you can boat out to the archipelago for a day on the sandbanks whenever you like.
Seven days lets a family find its rhythm without rushing: beach mornings, a snorkelling trip, a sandbank picnic at low tide, a dolphin-watching boat day and a slow sunset dhow. Transfers are short, which matters with children. Our Mozambique family beach holiday guide covers ages, malaria precautions and what to pack; our Santorini Mozambique review walks through the villas.
Price from US$2,600 per person sharing (7 days, 6 nights private villa or family lodge at Vilanculos, daily breakfast, one island boat day, transfers; flights and some activities extra). Best season: April–October for calm seas; the green season is warmer and cheaper. Ideal for: Families with children, multi-generational groups, anyone who wants a villa over a lodge.
4. Ponta Mamoli Private Couples Holiday — 5 Days
Best for: Couples who want a quiet beach and a private-pool suite within a short flight or drive of Johannesburg.
Not every Mozambique beach holiday needs a light aircraft and a boat. Ponta Mamoli, on the far southern coast near the South African border, is reachable on a short flight to Maputo and a road transfer, or a straight drive up from Johannesburg — which makes it the easiest beach in the country to reach for a long weekend or a first trip. White Pearl Resorts is the standout here: thatched suites with private plunge pools strung along a dune above an empty beach, turtles nesting in season (November to February) and humpback whales passing offshore mid-year.
Five days gives you four nights of slow mornings, beach walks, a horse ride along the sand, snorkelling in the bay and candlelit dinners — a couples holiday without the cost and logistics of the northern islands. For the wider southern coast, see our best places to stay in Mozambique guide and our White Pearl Ponta Mamoli review.
Price from US$2,400 per person sharing (5 days, 4 nights private-pool suite, most meals, transfers from Maputo; flights or self-drive extra). Best season: Year-round; whales June–November, turtles November–February. Ideal for: Couples, short breaks, first-time visitors who want to keep transfers simple.
5. Tofo & Inhambane Dive Beach Holiday — 6 Days
Best for: Divers and relaxed beach travellers — whale sharks, manta rays and year-round reef diving at a gentler price.
Tofo, on the Inhambane coast, is the country's diving heart and its most easy-going beach town. The reefs off the long sweep of Tofo beach host year-round manta-ray cleaning stations, and the open water is one of the most reliable places on earth to swim with whale sharks (best October to March). The vibe is barefoot and unhurried — beach lodges rather than island suites, fresh seafood, and dive boats launching straight off the sand. It is the best-value coastal holiday in Mozambique for anyone whose trip is built around the water.
Six days gives you four to five nights, enough for several dives or ocean safaris, a whale-shark snorkel and plenty of beach time. You reach it on a short flight to Inhambane from Johannesburg or Maputo, then a 30-minute transfer. For the reefs and the marine calendar, see our best beaches in Mozambique guide.
Price from US$1,600 per person sharing (6 days, 5 nights beach lodge, breakfast, airport transfers; dives, ocean safaris and flights extra). Best season: Whale sharks October–March; manta rays year-round; calmest seas May–October. Ideal for: Divers, snorkellers, independent travellers and anyone watching the budget.
6. Mozambique Honeymoon Island Escape — 7 Days
Best for: Honeymooners who want privacy, barefoot luxury and the romance of a small island.
For a honeymoon, the Bazaruto Archipelago is hard to beat — small lodges, private beaches and a pace that is entirely yours. Seven days on Benguerra or Bazaruto Island buys you a private-pool villa, a sunset dhow cruise set up just for the two of you, a dinner laid on the sand at low tide with lanterns in the dunes, and days split between the reef, the spa and the deck. The lodges are practised at honeymoons and quietly fold in the small touches — a turndown on the beach, a champagne sandbank picnic — without making a performance of it.
Many couples pair the island with two or three nights inland first, turning this into a bush-and-beach honeymoon; if that appeals, our Mozambique safari packages guide covers the routings. For the pure-beach version, our Bazaruto honeymoon guide goes deeper on the lodges and the romantic extras.
Price from US$6,200 per person sharing (7 days, 6 nights island lodge, all meals, local drinks, marine activities, park fees, transfers; honeymoon extras included at most lodges; flights extra). Best season: May–October. Ideal for: Honeymooners, anniversaries, couples celebrating.
7. Exclusive-Use Private Villa Holiday — 6 Days
Best for: Families or groups who want a whole beach house to themselves, with a private chef and staff.
For complete privacy, Mozambique has a handful of exclusive-use beach houses you take over entirely — the Pambele beach house and the private villas at Azura Benguerra among them. You get the house, a private chef, a host and often a dedicated vehicle or boat, and you set your own schedule: meals when you want them, activities on your terms, and no other guests. For a family travelling together, or two or three couples sharing, the per-person cost can land close to a top lodge rate while the experience is entirely your own.
Six days gives a group time to settle into the house and use it properly — long lunches, private dives, a sandbank day with the boat to yourselves. Our best places to stay in Mozambique guide lists the exclusive-use options and how they are priced.
Price from US$7,500 per person sharing for a full house (6 days, 5 nights exclusive-use villa with chef and staff, most activities; based on the house at capacity; flights and transfers extra). Best season: April–November. Ideal for: Multi-generational families, groups of friends, anyone who wants total privacy.
8. Quirimbas Archipelago Remote Island Holiday — 7 Days
Best for: Travellers who want the wildest, quietest islands in Mozambique — near-empty beaches and the finest reefs.
Far to the north, off the Cabo Delgado coast, the Quirimbas Archipelago is Mozambique at its most remote — thirty-odd coral islands, a handful of small lodges, and reefs so little-dived they feel untouched. Quilálea, Vamizi and the historic island of Ibo are the names to know: private islands with a few villas each, where you may not see another boat all day. This is the holiday for travellers who have done Bazaruto and want something further still, or who simply want the quietest beach they can find.
Seven days is right for the Quirimbas, because getting there takes a little more flying — Johannesburg or Maputo to Pemba, then a light aircraft or boat to the island. In return you get diving on pristine reefs, dhow sailing between islands, and the sense of a coast that tourism has barely touched. Note that travel to Cabo Delgado should be planned with current advice in mind; we keep abreast of the situation and route accordingly.
Price from US$7,800 per person sharing (7 days, 5–6 nights island lodge, all meals, activities, park fees, Pemba transfers; flights extra). Best season: May–November. Ideal for: Repeat visitors, divers, couples wanting the most remote islands.
9. All-Inclusive Family Island Holiday — 7 Days
Best for: Families who want an island, not a villa — with a kids' programme and everything handled.
Some families want the full island, but with the structure of a resort and a children's programme. Anantara Bazaruto, on the largest island in the archipelago, is built for exactly this: family pool villas with room for children, a kids' club, a wide spread of included activities — snorkelling, dune drives, dhow trips, fishing — and the reassurance that once you are on the island, the all-inclusive rate covers the day. The shallows are safe and warm, and the island is big enough to feel like a holiday rather than a single beach.
Seven days lets a family split the time between the pool, the reef and the island's activities without feeling rushed, and the flights and transfers are arranged end to end. Our Mozambique family beach holiday guide covers the practicalities of travelling with children here, and our Anantara Bazaruto review walks through the family villas.
Price from US$5,200 per person sharing (7 days, 6 nights all-inclusive family pool villa, kids' programme, most activities, transfers; flights extra; child rates available). Best season: April–October for calm seas. Ideal for: Families who prefer an island resort to a self-catered villa.
10. Grand Mozambique Two-Island Holiday — 10 Days
Best for: The complete coastal holiday — two different islands, or an island paired with the mainland dive coast.
For a longer trip, the best of Mozambique is a two-part holiday that pairs contrasting stretches of coast. The classic version links the Bazaruto Archipelago in the south with the Quirimbas in the far north — two island worlds, one busy with activity, the other near-empty. A gentler version pairs the Tofo dive coast with a few nights on Benguerra, giving you the marine life of the Inhambane reefs and then the barefoot luxury of the islands to finish. Ten days carries the extra flying comfortably and lets each place breathe.
This is the holiday for travellers who want to see more than one face of the coast, or who are making the long journey to Mozambique and want to make the most of it. We build the routing around the flight connections so you spend your time on the beach, not in transit.
Price from US$9,500 per person sharing (10 days, two island or island-and-coast stays, most meals and activities, internal flights and transfers; international flights extra). Best season: May–October. Ideal for: Longer holidays, repeat visitors, travellers who want the full coast.
Private, Luxury, Family, All-Inclusive or Couples — Which Package Is Right for You?
The five words travellers use most for a Mozambique holiday overlap, but they point to different trips. Here is how we read them when we plan:
- Private — exclusivity of access: your own villa or beach house, your own boat and host, no shared activities. The Exclusive-Use Private Villa Holiday and a privately guided island stay are the clearest examples.
- Luxury — the standard of the lodge: private-pool suites, gourmet dining, barefoot island service. Benguerra and the top Bazaruto lodges set the bar.
- Family — space, safety and ease: a mainland villa at Vilanculos with a pool and kitchen, or an island resort with a kids' programme like Anantara Bazaruto.
- All-inclusive — one price, no daily bill: meals, local drinks, most activities and transfers folded in, best value on the island lodges.
- Couples — privacy and a slow pace: a quiet southern beach at Ponta Mamoli, or a honeymoon island escape on Benguerra with private dhow sunsets.
Most of our guests end up blending two of these — a private, luxury couples holiday, or an all-inclusive family island week. Tell us which words matter most to you and we will match the lodge and the routing to them.

When to Go — and When to Book
The dry, cooler months of May to October are the peak for a Mozambique beach holiday: the water is clearest for diving and snorkelling, the seas are calmest, and the humpback whales pass the coast (roughly June to November). Whale sharks are most reliable October to March. The green season, November to April, brings warm water, lower rates and good availability, with the chance of heavy rain and the odd storm. For the full month-by-month picture, see our best time to visit Mozambique guide.
The island lodges are small and sell out early. For peak dates (June to October, and the festive season) at Azura Benguerra, andBeyond Benguerra, Anantara Bazaruto and Kisawa Sanctuary, book nine to twelve months ahead. Mainland villas at Vilanculos, Tofo and Ponta Mamoli can usually be booked three to six months out. If your dates are flexible, the green season is where the value is — and it is often when the lodges run their best specials.
Why Book Your Mozambique Holiday With Beyond Africa
We have been arranging private travel on this coast for years, and Mozambique is the country we know best. We have flown into the Bazaruto sandbanks at low tide, dived the Two Mile Reef off Benguerra, sat out a green-season storm at Tofo and watched turtles come ashore at Ponta Mamoli. That means we can tell you honestly which lodge suits a family and which suits a honeymoon, when the diving is worth the trip, and how to link the flights so you spend your days on the beach rather than in an airport. Every package here is a starting point — tell us your dates, your group and the words that matter most (private, luxury, family, all-inclusive, couples) and we will build the trip around them.
