Just 35 minutes drive from Cape Town City Centre, in the Kalk Bay village lies a family beach known as St James beach with its colourful Victorian-style bathing changing huts, tidal pool and rock pools, which are safe and popular for couples travelling with children. Danger Beach, also in St James, is a well-known surf spot. The Architecture of most the houses in St James have a mix of Dutch and British influence date back to the days when the Cape was still a colony of the British Empire.The beach names comes from St James a Roman Catholic Church built in the area in 1858 for the Filipino fisherman.

Kalk Bay village offers an range of cafés, restaurants, bars and the best places one could dream to go for fish and chips take aways. One of the most popular sea food restaurant is the Harbour House offering a variety of menus amazing views. The Kalk Bay fish market is one of the best place in Cape Town to go to for fresh fish. The Bay is a fishing destination for children and parents from the long safe Wharf.
When to Go?
The best time to go to any beach in Cape Town still the hot months of summer December to April). Soon after winter, as from September to December, provided that there is no rain on that particular day, it should be fine to take a day to St James Beach. The tidal pool makes the beach a safe heaven for parents and children alike and makes a deterrent for any shark attack.
